Foot Therapy

Do you have problems with sore, tired, or aching feet?  Or perhaps your feet are looking worn out and in need of tender love and care?  Perhaps it’s time to give your feet some therapy!

Feet are one of the hardest working parts of the body, so it’s not surprising they suffer from wear and tear.  The smallest injury or problem with your feet can cause excruciating pain, particularly if you are unable to have a few days off your feet to rest and recuperate.  Many of the most common problems are easily remedied, however, and it might be as simple as a quick visit to the podiatrist, pharmacist or doctor.

Some of the most frequent and more minor feet injuries or maladies are things such as athlete’s foot (flaky and itchy skin), ingrown nails (when the toenail

grows or curls into the nail bed causing a painful infection), plantar fasciitis (pain in the feet, usually the heel, due to excessive weight bearing or continued strain from walking on hard surfaces), and the plantar wart (a wart on the foot).  These problems can be rectified with care and medical attention – athlete’s foot may be treated with medication, plantar warts and ingrown nails can be seen to by your local GP, while general pain and wear to the feet due to weight-bearing or frequent mobility may be reparable with a visit to the podiatrist for a prescribed pair of shoes.

Of course it is always recommended that if you have any discomfort or unusual symptoms with your feet, your first port of call should be your local doctor.  You may be unfortunate enough to have a more serious medical condition, such as Morton’s neuroma (numbness, pain on weight-bearing and a burning sensation to the feet), bunions (swelling of the metatarsophalangeal joint, between the big toe and the foot), or club foot or flat feet.  A visit to your doctor will ensure you get the care you need, and you may be referred to a specialist.

If your feet are simply tired from a hard day’s work, however, they may only need a bit of love and attention!  Invest in some foot-exfoliating scrub, some cooling-creams, and some scented foot massage-oil.  Treat yourself to a warm foot soak, a gentle scrub to get rid of any dry skin, and a revitalizing foot-rub with some massage oil to finish.

The key to having happy feet is simply to take care of them!  If you suffer from sweaty or smelly feet, try switching your socks to 100% cotton.  If you have poor circulation and constantly freezing feet, try some 100% wool socks.  Most of all, make sure you take your time choosing shoes and if need be, consult a specialist.  Try and imagine life without your feet, and it’s near impossible.  It just goes to show that if you take care of your feet, they’ll take care of you, so make sure you give them the love and attention they deserve!
